Amazon Essence: A Private 3-Day Immersive Expedition in Iquitos

Day 1: River Wonders & Pink Dolphins

  • Morning: Pickup in Iquitos and visit the Bellavista-Nanay Market to see exotic local products. Board a boat to see the "Meeting of the Waters" (the black Nanay River and brown Amazon River).

  • Afternoon: Visit "Fundo Pedrito" to see giant Paiche fish, caimans, and Victoria Regia water lilies. Later, explore "Fundo Neyser" to see monkeys, sloths, and macaws.

  • Sunset & Night: Spot Pink Dolphins as the sun sets. After dinner, go on a night walk to find tarantulas, frogs, and nocturnal insects.

- Your adventure begins with pick-up from your hotel or the Iquitos airport. We’ll head to Bellavista-Nanay Market, where you’ll explore local products like aguaje, suri, jungle fruits, and Amazonian fish — a perfect introduction to Amazon culture and flavors. Then, we’ll board our boat and navigate the Nanay and Amazon Rivers, where you’ll witness the stunning meeting of the two rivers, their black and brown waters blending dramatically. Your guide will share stories and facts about the mighty Amazon River and its ecosystem. After about 30 minutes, we’ll visit Fundo Pedrito, home to the Victoria Regia, piranhas, alligators, and the giant paiche (pirarucú). You can even feed these amazing creatures before continuing to our jungle lodge for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, we’ll explore Fundo Neyser, where you can see monkeys, sloths, parrots, macaws, and maybe even an anaconda. Before sunset, enjoy a magical moment spotting pink dolphins as the sun sets over the Amazon River. Day 2: Piranha Fishing & Yagua Tribe

  • Morning: Early birdwatching at Quebrada Timicurillo, followed by traditional piranha fishing in the Amazon River (you might also catch catfish or sardines).

  • Afternoon: Visit an authentic Yagua community. Learn about their language, ancestral dances, and try using a blowgun (pucuna) for hunting.

  • Night: Dinner at the lodge followed by an evening of Amazonian legends, hearing stories about the Tunchi and the Pink Dolphin.

- We’ll start the day early with a birdwatching excursion along Quebrada Timicurillo, one of the best spots to observe colorful Amazon birds in their natural habitat. After returning to the lodge for breakfast, we’ll head out for an exciting piranha fishing experience on the Amazon River or one of its tributaries. Besides the famous red piranhas, you may also catch catfish, sardines, or mojarras — a true taste of local life on the river. Following lunch and a short rest, we’ll visit a small Yagua community, one of the Amazon’s ancestral tribes. You’ll learn about their culture, language, traditional dances, and blowgun hunting techniques. This is also a perfect opportunity to purchase handcrafted souvenirs directly from the artisans. As the sun sets, we’ll return to the lodge for dinner. Then we’ll visit the village of San Rafael, where you’ll discover the lifestyle, customs, and beliefs of the local people. A community member will guide us through their botanical garden, explaining the traditional use of medicinal plants and natural remedies still practiced today — a fascinating look into Amazonian ancestral knowledge.
