Day 1 – Arrival & Amazon Rainforest Exploration
Your adventure begins at 8:00 a.m. with pick-up from your hotel or Iquitos airport by one of our experienced guides and driver. We’ll drive approximately 1.5 hours to Nauta, the only town connected to Iquitos by road. There, a comfortable traditional wooden boat will take us to the Yarapa Community Reserve, located in the buffer zone of Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, where our eco-lodge is set in the heart of pristine rainforest.
Depending on the season, the boat ride takes about 2.5 hours. Along the way, enjoy sightings of colorful birds, pink dolphins, and, if lucky, sloths hanging from Munguba trees (Pseudobombax munguba).
We’ll arrive at the lodge around 1:00 p.m. for lunch, followed by a short rest before our first jungle excursion. Wearing rubber boots, explore the primary rainforest, spotting giant trees, palms, and land mammals. Learn about medicinal plants and how seeds are used for handicrafts and souvenirs.
Return to the lodge before sunset for dinner, then set out on a night excursion to spot caimans in nearby lakes — an exciting opportunity for photos before releasing them back into their natural habitat.
