Day 1: Arrival & Rainforest Exploration

  • Morning: Pickup in Iquitos, drive to Nauta (1.5h), and boat ride (2.5h) to the eco-lodge. Spot birds and dolphins along the way.

  • Afternoon: Primary jungle trek to discover medicinal plants and giant trees.

  • Night: Caiman spotting excursion by boat in the nearby lakes.

- Our adventure begins at 8:00 a.m. with pick-up from your hotel or Iquitos airport by one of our expert guides and driver. We’ll drive 1.5 hours to Nauta, the only city connected to Iquitos by road. Upon arrival, a comfortable traditional boat will take us to the Yarapa Communal Reserve, located in the buffer zone of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, where our eco-lodge is nestled in the heart of the rainforest. Depending on the season, the boat journey takes approximately 2.5 hours. Along the way, you’ll admire colorful birds, spot river dolphins, and, if lucky, see a sloth hanging from Punga trees (Pseudobombax munguba). We’ll arrive at the lodge around 1:00 p.m. for lunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the primary rainforest wearing rubber boots. You’ll discover giant trees, diverse palm species, and search for terrestrial mammals. Our guide will explain the use of seeds in local handicrafts and teach about medicinal plants and their practical applications. After returning to the lodge, enjoy dinner before setting out on a night excursion to spot caimans in nearby lagoons — an exciting chance for photos before releasing them back into their natural habitat. Highlights Travel from Iquitos to Nauta and explore the Yarapa Communal Reserve Boat ride along the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve with wildlife spotting Explore the primary rainforest and learn about medicinal plants and handicrafts Evening caiman-spotting tour in Amazon lagoons
