Day 1 – Local Culture, Pink Dolphins & Night Jungle Adventure
Your Amazon jungle expedition begins at 8:00 a.m. with pickup from your hotel or the Iquitos airport. Enjoy a scenic 1.5-hour drive to Nauta, the only town connected to Iquitos by road. There, we’ll board a comfortable traditional wooden boat and cruise toward the Yarapa Communal Reserve, located in the buffer zone of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, where our eco-lodge is hidden deep in the rainforest.
During the 2.5-hour boat journey, admire colorful birds, spot pink river dolphins, and—if you’re lucky—catch sight of a sloth resting among Punga trees (Pseudobombax munguba).
We’ll visit Puerto Miguel, a peaceful Cocama community known for its hospitality and fascinating culture. Learn about their ancestral traditions, local crafts, and daily life with insights from your guide.
In the afternoon, head to the entrance of the Yarapa River, one of the best spots to watch and swim near pink dolphins as the sun sets over the Amazon—a truly unforgettable moment.
After dinner, get ready for an exciting night jungle walk. Armed with flashlights, we’ll search for tarantulas, snakes, frogs, scorpions, and countless nocturnal insects. If you’re up for it, join our fun “Giant Frog Challenge”—a prize awaits the guest who finds the largest one!
